Obligation of Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil:

“𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥, 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝; 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞; 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 – 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡.”

This is a hadith which many misunderstand and misapply so it is crucial that one gains the correct understanding and adheres to it with one’s speech and actions.

The explanation of Shaykh Salih ‘Uthaymin (rahimahullaah) has been transcribed from an Islamic lesson (#65) on the study series, “Explanation of Imaam an-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith” given by Shaykh Abu Iyaad Amjad Rafiq in Middlesbrough on 18th July 2010.

Jabir b. Abdullah (radi’Allaahu ‘anhu) said:
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡’𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 (𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐮 𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐡𝐢 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐦) 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧, 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠: “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐨.” 𝐇𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲: “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐰𝐨.” 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫; 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐲: “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝.
