The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Beware of oppression! Indeed, oppression will turn into darkness on the Day of Judgment.” [Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2578/6553]

Al-Mu’āwī (d. 1031 AH), rahimahullah, said:
“Indeed, in this world, the oppression of an oppressor creates darkness within him, meaning: it creates darkness in the heart. When the heart becomes enveloped in darkness, it surrounds (the oppressor) with arrogance, chaos, confusion, and transgression. As a result, guidance and insight are lost and vanish, and the heart is destroyed. Consequently, on the Day of Judgment, the oppressor will find himself in a state shrouded in darkness.”
