Lesson 18 on the explanation of Aqeedah at-Tahaawiyyah is available. Please listen to it here:
This lesson was related to Allaah’s Kalaam (speech) and the belief of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah that Allaah spoke the Qur’aan which is in the Lawhul-Mahfuz (Preserved Tablet). Speech is an Attribute of His Dhaat (Essence) and Allaah has eternally had the attribute of Speech and He speaks when He wills and how He wills i.e. Speech is tied to Allaah’s will and wish and Allaah’s Speech is NOT like our Speech. Jibreel (Angel Gabriel) then conveyed all of this, gradually over a period of years, to the final Prophet and seal of the Anbiya, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, who then conveyed it to the Ummah, including his helpers and loyal disciples, the Sahaba, may Allaah be pleased with them all. Some of the Sahaba were commanded by the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to write down the verses of the Qur’aan when any new ayat where revealed to him on various objects they could find, i.e. tree bark, bone, stone, etc, and the Sahaba then decided to collect all the verses of the Qur’aan and compiled it into one book, which has been preserved by Allaah, and copies of which we read today.
This conflicts with the views of the deviated misguided sects such as those belonging to Ahlul-Kalaam (people of theological rhetoric) i.e. Jahmiyyah, Ash’ariyyah, Maturidiyyah, Mu’tazilah, who believe that the Qur’aan is not the uncreated Speech of Allaah, which the Imaam of the Sunnah, Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimahullah) opposed them in and went to trial for, defending the truth that the Qur’aan is the uncreated Speech of Allaah, much to the annoyance of the Jahmiyyah who had influence over the rulers.
