This lesson was an explanation of the following part of at-Tahawi’s creed:

“We do not say that the Qur’aan is created and we do not oppose the main body (jamaa’ah) of the Muslims.”

The belief of the Muslims that the Qur’aan is the speech of Allaah and is not created was historically opposed by two famous individuals, al-Ja’d bin Dirham and al-Jahm bin Safwaan, who were present in the second century after Islaam. They were known for argumentation and disputation and they would mix with many of the people of other civilizations and nations, like the Jews, Christians, Hindus (Sumaniyyah), Sab’iyyah. They are the ones who initiated the speech of the Qur’aan being created. They took it from other nations such as the Jews who were already saying that the Tawrah is created and likewise the Christians had a similar theology. And from them, another group called the Mu’tazilah took this belief from these individuals and then they developed this belief, writing it in their books and eventually putting the Muslim nation to trial. They affected many of the rulers of the Muslims and they made those rulers impose this belief upon the Muslims at large and they imprisoned many scholars and killed many of them.
