Lesson 47 Upload – Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah

Some of the matters or points covered:

  • The only religion acceptable to Allāh is Islām, evidences from the Qur’ān mentioned.
  • During the Qur’ān being revealed there were some things that were from the Sharī’ah but then they were abrogated so they can no longer be considered from the Sharī’ah. On the other hand, there were some things which were initially not from the Sharī’ah and then they were permitted so they were legislated in the religion. An example of each mentioned.
  • Further elaboration regarding the essence of the Sharī’ah.
  • To correctly believe in Tawheed and to establish it, we need to use language of both negating and affirming.
  • Scholars after comprehensive analysis and investigation categorised Tawheed into three categories. A mention of the three categories and how there is one āyah in the Qur’ān which mentions all three.
  • More elaboration regarding Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah, the first category. Verses from the Qur’ān mentioned showing it is only Allāh who creates, owns, regulates and controls everything.
  • How the Pagan Arabs at the time of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) believed in Ruboobiyyah, they and other than them who affirmed the creator, none of them believed there is another creator alongside Allāh. Nor is there to be found in the books written on history, religion, sects, beliefs, etc. that there was among mankind one who believed in more than one creator with those creators being equal in their attributes and actions.
  • How the modern day atheist is a polytheist.

Lesson 46 Upload – Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah

Some of the matters or points covered:

  • Belief in Qadr and Sharī’ah go together, they can’t be separated.
  • Sharī’ah always prohibits what is intrinsically harmful and evil or overwhelmingly harmful and evil.
  • Legislation is whatever Messengers brought of worshipping Allāh (the Exalted) alone, the very purpose of creation.
  • The general meaning of Islām: to submit to Allāh, inwardly and outwardly, by observing His commands (orders and prohibitions). This applies in any time and place where there is a Prophet and he brought a message and a legislation.
  • All previous Prophets and Messengers were upon Islām, their religion was Islām – doing what Allāh commanded and keeping away from what He prohibited, upon the foundation of worshipping Him alone. This is the general, universal Islām.
  • Evidences from the Qur’ān which explicitly mention the word Islām (to submit) and Muslim to show this was the actual religion of all the Prophets and Messengers.
  • Ibrahīm (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was an Arab and spoke a dialect of Arabic, he was a Muslim and didn’t call himself a Jew. There were no Israelites (Banī Isrāʾīl) or religion called “Judaism” in his time so the Yahūd’s claim to Ibrahīm is empty.
  • The meaning of the word Yahūd and what it refers to.
  • Isrā’īl is a name of Yaʿqūb (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) which means slave of Allāh.
  • Judah is simply a tribe among the Israelites, it is not “Israel.”
  • Judaism is a new religion based upon race, nationalism and land.
  • This religion they invented makes the Rabbis to be a manifestation of God on this earth, they have a divine character. This is Shirk (polytheism).
  • Nazarene means helper of Jesus (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). Ibrahīm (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) wasn’t a Christian. Christians worship Jesus and the cross which is idolatry.
  • Mention of how some Jews claim they are a manifestation of God on this earth, and that they will be worshipped in the era of their awaited Messiah (Dajjāl) in the same way that the Christians worshipped Jesus (عليه السلام), whom they consider a Jew from among them.
  • Islam and the Sharī’ah can take a specific meaning – after the sending of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) all prior legislations, laws, books, religions have been abrogated. Islam in its specific sense is unique to the Sharī’ah of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
  • Meaning of the word muhaymin.
  • In the Qur’an [6:163], Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is commanded to say: ‘…and I am the first of the Muslims’. How can this be when all previous Prophets and Messengers were Muslims as well?
  • Reply to the question: ‘What about those people who are not able to believe in Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) because his message didn’t reach them?’.

Lesson 45 Upload – Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah

Some of the matters or points covered:

  • Man is in need of guiding principles which govern his life, of attaining good and avoiding harm. This can only be by divine legislation. Allāh is the Creator, He knows the beneficial interest of man, what is rectifying or corrupting, good or bad.
  • People are divided into two groups regarding Qadr and Sharī’ah together:
    1) People of guidance and success who believe in Divine Pre-Decree in accordance to the four levels and also believe in His legislation. They don’t use Qadr as an argument against legislation nor use legislation against His decree, nor do they make it a contradiction between Qadr and legislation.
    2) People of misguidance and destruction, who can be split into three groups in this regard:
        1) Majūsiyyah – those who resemble Majūs (Magians), believing in legislation but rejecting Qadr. They believe actions of man are outside of the domain of Allāh’s will and power. However, punishment and reward are on the basis of our actions, we have free choice to choose right or wrong path, we aren’t compelled. Two groups of Majūs mentioned.
        2) Mushrikiyyah – those who resemble the polytheists, believe in Qadr but use it to justify opposition to the legislation of Allāh. Verse in the Qur’ān mentioned about the Mushriks who used the argument of Qadr to justify committing Shirk.
        3) Iblīsiyyah – those who believe in Qadr and Sharī’ah but hold there to be a contradiction between them. This is the statement of Iblīs (Satan) who used a false analogy and argument to justify opposing the command of his Lord when he was commanded to prostrate before Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ).

Lesson 44 Upload – Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah

Some of the matters or points covered:

  • Discussion of chapter titled “the necessity of believing in al-Qadr (Divine Pre-Decree) and al-Sharr’ (legislation)”.
  • Mention of things that explain necessity of believing in al-Qadr:
    1) It’s from the six pillars of Īmān.
    2) It’s from the completion of belief in Tawheed ar-Rubūbiyyah (Allāh is the Lord, Creator, Sustainer, Provider, Owner of all things, One who controls and regulates all things).
    3) By way of al-Qadr tawakkul (reliance upon Allāh) is actualized. We take the ways and means and submit outcomes of affairs to Allāh. We’re pleased and satisfied with the outcome whatever it is.
    4) By way of al-Qadr the heart of a man is tranquil, not disturbed by the trials and tribulations of life. Whatever harm or benefit comes to him is from Allāh. The more one increases in Īmān in al-Qadr then the greater tranquility one will have in their life.
    5) It removes from a person pride, arrogance, self-amazement because whatever they achieved they only achieved it by the Qadr of Allāh.
    6) Disturbance in the soul, grief, pain, ends because you know the affair belongs to Allāh so therefore a person is pleased and simply submits.
  • Asbāb (ways and means) have an effect by the will and permission of Allāh. Making du’ā is from the greatest ways and means, it is part and parcel of al-Qadr and du’ā can repel al-Qadr.
  • Why it’s necessary to believe in al-Sharr’ (legislation).
  • Benefit or harm can be known by way of; 1) fitrah, 2) reason, 3) practical experience or 4) legislation/law.
  • Role of Sharīah (legislation/law): to strengthen what fitrah, reason, practical experience have come to know. Fitrah, reason and practical experience bear witness to the Sharīah. Example of intoxicants and alcohol mentioned. Sharīah has come with the truth, rectification, it commands all that is good and prohibits all that is evil.

Lesson 43 Upload – Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah

Some of the matters or points covered:

  • Continuation of reply to a question that arises: can a person not use the argument of Al-Qadr and say: ‘If there is predestination then can I not use that as an argument to oppose the legislation (commands and prohibitions) of Allāh?’. Third argument from the angle of reason/intellect mentioned.
  • This argument goes along the lines of: if person using Al-Qadr as an argument (for doing evil deeds) was given a choice in travelling to two different cities, one is safe and secure with good food and drink, and the second city is one of fear, disturbance, various types of evil and wretchedness, he would obviously travel to the first city and would not ever say: ‘It’s in Allāh’s decree for me to travel to the second city, I have no choice so let me go to this wretched, dangerous, evil city’. So if this is the case for a destination in this life then why not make the same choice in relation to a destination in the Hereafter (Paradise or Hell)?.
  • Response to two doubts or misconceptions raised:
    1) Regarding verses [6:106-107] in the Qur’ān, someone might say: ‘polytheism occurred by Allāh’s will so is this not justification of Shirk by Allāh’s decree?’.
    2) Regarding famous hadīth of Adam (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and his disputation with Mūsa (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), someone might say: ‘Is Adam not using Al-Qadr as an argument?’. This is answered from two angles.

Lesson 42 Upload – Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah

Some of the matters or points covered:

  • Recap of previous lesson including mention of causes and their effects, properties of things, whether inanimate (like a rock) or animate (like a human), and how can we explain evil within Allāh’s creation and can evil be ascribed to Allāh?
  • Issue 3: relating to arguments regarding predestination and free-will, can a person be held responsible for his deeds and is it right for a person to use Al-Qadr as an argument to justify his actions?
  • Reply to a question that arises: can a person not use the argument of Al-Qadr and say: ‘If there is predestination then can I not use that as an argument to oppose the legislation (commands and prohibitions) of Allāh?’. This is answered from three angles: 1) Qur’ān, 2) Sunnah and 3) Reason/Intellect.
  • 1) Qur’ān: two verses provided, first one [6:148] relating to polytheists (Pagans) using Al-Qadr to justify their Shirk and how those before them also used this argument and justification but were punished by Allāh, and second one [4:165] relating to sending of Messengers so mankind can have no plea against Allāh.
  • 2) Sunnah: hadith reported in Bukharī and Muslim regarding ones seat in Hellfire or Paradise being already written (because of Allāh’s prior knowledge) and how one should work deeds because a person of Paradise, the deeds of the people of Paradise will be facilitated for him, and a person of Hellfire, the deeds of the people of Hellfire will be facilitated for him.
  • 3) Reason/Intellect: two arguments mentioned including a very good, powerful one.
